Mankind's search for an elixir, to attain a disease free body and a serene mind found its answer in Ayurveda. This ancient healthcare wisdom of India , evolved through great seers and master physicians is Nature's ultimate nectar for the holistic well being of mankind. Ayurveda is not a mere healing system, but guides one to follow an appropriate living, and to attain longevity through proper diet, exercise, and habits to restore balance in the body, mind and consciousness.
According to Ayurveda, every human being is a unique phenomenon, comprising five basic elements - ether, air, fire, water and earth. Vata (ether plus air), Pitta (fire plus water) and Kapha (water plus earth) are called the Tridosha , meaning the three humors or the three organizations of the body. Imbalances in these elements would lead to health conditions adversely affecting the body system. |

Ayurveda has eight branches called Ashtangas . They are Kaya (general medicine), Baala (pediatrics), Graha (astrological), Urdwanga (above neck), Shalya (surgery), Dhamshtra (toxicology), Jara (longevity) and Vrusha (infertility). The physician who is well versed in all these eight branched is called an Ashtavaidyan .
Ayurveda is an integral system of health, which does not separate body from Nature. This integral relation extends to medicine too. The purity of Nature, to a large extent, still exists in Kerala, which is probably one of the reasons for Ayurveda to be preserved in the traditional form in Kerala. |
